Gutshot Mobile delivers all the latest poker information from the UK’s leading poker portal straight to your iPhone or iPod touch, using the Appwardly Mobile framework.

The app contains three sections which connect to different content management systems in order to retrieve new stories as soon as they are published.

The Articles section is managed through a bespoke CMS which has been used for many years to allow Gutshot’s team of writers to submit original content.  When published on the web site, it is organised by day, keyword and author.  The app simply presents a blog-style view with the most recent articles first, and uses the native search bar feature to allow users to quickly find articles of interest.

Gutshot’s webmaster posts highlights of the day’s poker news to the site’s forum.  The News section of the app uses a feed from the vBulletin system which simply extracts a subset of the forum posts containing these stories.

Promotions are actually managed via a forum in the same system.  However the text for these offers is exclusive to the iPhone app so the forum is flagged as private and does not appear on the web site.  This simply provides the editorial staff with an easy and familiar way to add new promotional content to the app.

All three of the above sections include social network integration, so users can – and regularly do – share interesting stories with their friends using Facebook and Twitter.
